Connor Barham

Berkeley's Connor Barham drove in four runs and was the winning pitcher in the Stags' 16-2 win over Cane Bay Wednesday, April 24, in a Region 6-5A game.

Berkeley High School’s baseball team entered its final regular season game Thursday, April 25, at home against Cane Bay High School with a chance to lock down second place in the Region 6-5A standings.

A win gives the Stags an 8-4 region mark and the second seed behind region champion Wando High School (9-3 region) for the postseason.

The Stags (17-8) will crank up the Class 5A playoffs Tuesday, April 30, on Jim Bradley Field, no matter how they fare in the series finale versus Cane Bay (11-12).

Should Berkeley be the No. 2 seed in District 8, it will host the fourth-place team from Region 7-5A in the opener (Ashley Ridge or Fort Dorchester). Region 5-5A champion Chapin High School is the top seed in the four-team district.

If Berkeley is the No. 3 seed in District 7, it hosts the fourth-place team from Region 5-5A in its opener. Region 7-5A champion Summerville High School is the top seed in the four-team district.

The Stags pulled even in the three-game series against Cane Bay Wednesday, April 25, at Cane Bay. After falling 1-0 two days earlier in Moncks Corner, the Stags coasted in game two, 16-2, in five innings. Stags pitcher Connor Barham was 2-for-2 and knocked in four runs, while infielders Hudson Clark and Gavin Edens drove in two runs apiece. Clark also scored three runs.

Barham hurled 4.1 innings of one-hit ball on the mound and fanned four batters.

The Stags seized control with eight runs in the top of the first inning and added six more in the top of the fourth.

Two years ago, Berkeley captured the Class 5A state title. In 2023, the Stags capped the season in the Lower State final four.
