The St. John’s Christian Academy (SJCA) Board of Directors has selected Becky Ellison as the Head of School. Ellison will begin her duties directing and overseeing campus operations and school leadership with a contract starting June 1.

Ellison currently serves as the town of Moncks Corner Recreation Director, overseeing 12 programs with more than 1.500 participants, supervising 35 full-time and part-time employees, and supervising more than 250 temporary employees and volunteer coaches.

Ellison oversaw the construction and development of the multi-million-dollar Miracle League Field, which provides a recreation league for exceptional children and adults in Berkeley County. During her six-year tenure with the town, Ellison oversaw project management teams, vendor relations, contract negotiations, client expectations and field maintenance.

Before her tenure at the town of Moncks Corner, Ellison demonstrated her leadership skills during her 17 years as a math teacher and athletic director at Northwood Academy. She was responsible for the development of the curriculum, which included multi-dimensional lessons and technology-inclusive activities.

Ellison also led a multi-million-dollar school construction project and athletic field development and created multiple athletic programs, including the adoption of the physical education curriculum, accredited by the South Carolina Independent School Association.

Under the direction of former Moncks Corner mayor Michael Lockilear, Ellison oversaw the construction and development of the multi-million-dollar Miracle League Field, which provides a recreation league for exceptional children and adults in Berkeley County.

“I am entering this new season of leadership with expectancy, and I am humbled to accept this opportunity to lead and serve alongside those who have invested their careers in faith-based, K-12 education,” Ellison said. “Our shared faith in Jesus Christ will be our firm foundation, and we will re-strengthen our commitment to positive educational outcomes for our students.”

Ellison received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the College of Charleston and has served 20 years as a SCISA official and assignor. She calls Northwood Church home and attends with her husband of 25 years, Todd.

The Ellisons are most proud of their son and daughter-in-law, Tyler and Kaeley, son, Bryce, and granddaughter, Charlotte.
